Chandler Facility

Tellus Holdings Limited

Tellus Holdings Ltd proposes to develop and operate the Chandler Facility (salt mine and waste storage facilities) within the Maryvale Station Pastoral Lease, approximately 120 km south of Alice Springs and 15 km from the Titjikala community in the Northern Territory.

In March 2013, the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) decided that the project requires assessment under the NT Environmental Assessment Act at the level of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The project is a controlled action under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and is being assessed through an accredited assessment process. The relevant controlling provision is listed threatened species and communities (section 18 and 18A). EIS Guidelines (now called ‘Terms of Reference’) were subsequently issued on 19 July 2013.

The NT EPA was notified of variations to the project on 21 April 2016. The NT EPA reconsidered the environmental significance of the project and decided that an EIS was still required. New draft Terms of Reference have been prepared to take into account the variations and to allow Tellus Holdings Ltd an extension of the timeframe in which a draft EIS can be submitted.

The draft EIS is available for public comment until Friday 31 March 2017.
