07 Apr 2014
"The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) recognises there is community concern about the recent environmental incident at the Ranger Uranium Mine in Kakadu National Park.
Governmental regulation of the Ranger Uranium Mine is in the hands of the Commonwealth government and the Northern Territory Department of Mines and Energy. The NT EPA has confidence that the Commonwealth’s Office of the Supervising Scientist will provide for adequate control and remediation of the discharge.
The NT EPA has no role in the management of environmental issues on Commonwealth land, including Ranger Uranium Mine. The NT EPA collaborates with the Commonwealth Department of Environment in the management and assessment of environmental impact statements for mining developments Ranger Uranium Mine.”
