06 Oct 2015
The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) has released the draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Project Sea Dragon Stage 1 Legune Grow-out Facility (the Project) for public review.
Project Sea Dragon Pty Ltd proposes to establish stage 1 of a prawn aquaculture farm at Legune Station in the Victoria River District, Northern Territory, consisting of 1080 hectares of land-based ponds, 324 hectares of internal recycling ponds, and produce nominally 12 000 tonnes of prawns per annum.
The Project requires assessment under the Environmental Assessment Act and is a controlled action under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The Project is being assessed at the level of an EIS under the bilateral agreement between the NT and Australian Governments.
The draft Terms of Reference were developed by the NT EPA to assist Project Sea Dragon Pty Ltd in preparing an EIS. The draft Terms of Reference are available for public comment commencing on 7 October 2015. Comments are to be submitted on or before COB Friday 23 October 2015.
The NT EPA will then finalise and issue the Terms of Reference to Project Sea Dragon Pty Ltd for preparation of the EIS.
