Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Lee Point Master Planned Urban Development

17 Nov 2017

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has released the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Lee Point Master Planned Urban Development for public review from Saturday 18 November 2017 to Thursday 1 February 2018.

DHA is proposing to develop approximately 132.5ha of land at Lee Point which is located north east of the Darwin CBD. The development will include urban residential uses at varying densities, rural residential allotments as well as land for community infrastructure and open space.

The Lee Point Master Planned Urban Development requires assessment under the Environmental Assessment Act (EA Act) and is a ‘controlled action’ under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The Bilateral Agreement does not apply to this assessment. The Project is being assessed at the level of an EIS under the EA Act, and at the level of a Public Environment Report (PER) under the EPBC Act. The Proponent will prepare a single document to meet the requirements of the EA Act and the EPBC Act.

The draft EIS is available for public comment. Comments are to be submitted on or before COB Thursday 1 February 2018.
