Draft Terms of Reference for Jervois Base Metal Project

14 Jul 2017

The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) has released the draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Jervois Base Metal Project for public review.

KGL Resources proposes to commence open pit and underground mining and ore processing at the Jervois Base Metal Project, located approximately 270 km east-north-east of Alice Springs.

The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) has decided that the Jervois Base Metal Project requires assessment under the Environmental Assessment Act at the level of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

A delegate for the Australian Government Minister for the Environment decided that the Project (EPBC 2014/7111) was not a controlled action and did not require assessment and approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Terms of Reference for the development of an EIS were issued to KGL Resources on 28 May 2014. Prior to being issued, draft Terms of Reference were made available for public and Government comment for a period of two weeks. The finalised and issued Terms of Reference address comments received during the exhibition period.

On 25 January 2017 KGL Resources submitted a notice of variation to the Project under clause 14A of the Environmental Assessments Administrative Procedures. The NT EPA has developed the revised draft Terms of Reference for the preparation of and Environmental Impact Statement for the Jervois Base Metals Project. Following consideration of comments received during the public consultation period concluding 28 July, the draft Terms of Reference will be finalised and issued.
