Overview

The Department of infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is proposing the construction and operation of a common user ship lift, repair and maintenance facility approximately 700m east of the existing East Arm Wharf and Marine Supply Base in Darwin Harbour.

Stage 1: Notice of intent

On 14 November 2018 the NT EPA decided that the Darwin Ship Lift and Marine Industries Project requires assessment under the Environmental Assessment Act 1982 at the level of an environmental impact statement.

Following public consultation on the draft terms of reference from 16 to 30 November 2019, the NT EPA finalised and issued the terms of reference for the preparation of the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) to the Department of infrastructure, Planning and Logistics on 12 December 2019.

NT EPA notice

Statutory notice (27 July 2023)

The NT EPA provided its assessment report and draft environmental approval to the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security on 20 July 2023, under sections 64 and 65 of the Environment Protection Act 2019.

The assessment report and draft environmental approval may be inspected and obtained above.

The NT EPA publishes this notice in accordance with section 67 of the Environment Protection Act 2019.

Once the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security’s decision is made, it can be viewed on the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security website.
