Tellus Holdings Limited

Tellus Holdings Ltd proposes to develop and operate the Chandler Facility Project (salt mine and waste storage facilities) within the Maryvale and Henbury Station Pastoral Leases, approximately 120 km south of Alice Springs and 15 km from the Titjikala community in the Northern Territory.

In March 2013, the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) decided that the project required assessment under the NT Environmental Assessment Act at the level of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The project is a controlled action under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and was assessed through an accredited assessment process. The relevant controlling provision is listed threatened species and communities (section 18 and 18A).

The NT EPA was notified of variations to the project on 21 April 2016. The NT EPA reconsidered the environmental significance of the project and decided that an EIS was still required. New Terms of Reference were prepared to take into account the variations. The draft EIS was made available for comment from 18 February 2016, for a period of six weeks.

The making of Assessment Report 83 and providing it to the Minister marks the completion of the environmental impact assessment by the NT EPA.
