Overview

The Department of Mining and Energy (DME) is proposing to construct and operate solar generators in the Weddell region of the Northern Territory, supplying an additional 180-210 megawatts (MW) of solar generation and battery storage directly into the Darwin-Katherine electricity system.

The proposal includes a generation precinct, comprising of 3 to 6 solar farms, a substation and battery energy storage systems and an overhead transmission line connecting the generation precinct to the existing Channel Island-Hudson Creek overhead transmission line near the Weddell Power Station on the Middle Arm Peninsula.

The NT EPA invited public comment on the referral for standard assessment submitted by the Department of Mining and Energy for the Darwin Energy Hub.

For more information about the referral go to the environmental impact assessment register for the Darwin Energy Hub.
