Overview

The proposed action is to expand the existing Berrimah Freight Terminal, located at East Arm (Sections 5412, 5411 and 6082, Hundred of Bagot) about 7 km east of Darwin. It includes:

  • clearing of intertidal mangrove and terrestrial vegetation
  • seawall construction and land reclamation
  • construction of infrastructure including buildings, roads, rail line, fencing, and installation of utilities and services (power, communications, water and sewage).

The proposed action is estimated to take 36 months to construct and would have a 50 year operational lifespan.

Why we are consulting

Your feedback plays an important role and will be considered by the NT EPA in deciding whether the proposed action requires environmental impact assessment, and if so the required method of assessment.

Consultation helps the NT EPA and proponent to identify issues of concern and potential effects, as well as get feedback from stakeholders on project options or potential mitigation measures.

Statutory notice (11 April 2024)

The NT EPA invites public comment on a referral for standard assessment submitted by Aurizon Operations Ltd for the Berrimah Freight Terminal Expansion.

The referral documents can be inspected and obtained below. Interested persons may make a submission by 13 May 2024. The NT EPA publishes this notice in accordance with regulation 52(1) of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020.
