Proponent: Aurizon Operations Ltd
Overview
Aurizon Operations Ltd is proposing the Berrimah Freight Terminal Expansion Project about 7 km east of the Darwin Central Business District. The proposed action involves the extension of the existing Berrimah Freight Terminal at East Arm to create a larger terminal. It includes:
- clearing of intertidal mangrove and terrestrial vegetation
- seawall construction and land reclamation
- construction of infrastructure including buildings, roads, rail line, fencing, and installation of utilities and services (power, communications, water and sewage).
The proposed action is estimated to take 36 months to construct and would have a 50 year operational lifespan.

Statutory notice (11 April 2024)
The NT EPA published a statutory notice on 11 April 2024 to invite public comment on a referral for standard assessment, submitted by Aurizon Operations Ltd for the Berrimah Freight Terminal Expansion Project.
Interested persons were invited to make a submission by 13 May 2024. The NT EPA published the notice in accordance with regulation 52(1) of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020.
