The NT EPA takes a holistic approach to assessing the environmental impacts of development proposals in the Northern Territory.
Their environmental acceptability by having regard to whether proposals meet the objects of the Environmental Assessment Act 1982. In doing so, the NT EPA takes into consideration the interconnected nature of the environment.
The NT EPA has published its environmental factors and objectives to improve certainty and increase transparency about how the NT EPA conducts environmental impact assessments (EIA).
These factors and objectives provide a systematic approach to organising environmental information for the purpose of EIA; and establish clear benchmarks based on values. The factors and objectives provide an important structure for the organisation of information and will apply to all proposals considered by the NT EPA. This approach will facilitate consistent assessment and reporting.
The guidelines can be viewed at Guide to the NT EPA environmental factors and objectives PDF (300.2 KB).
