The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) has released the draft Terms of Reference for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Hayes Creek Project for public review.
PNX Metals proposes to mine polymetallic ore bodies at Mount Bonnie and Iron Blow and process ore at Fountain Head over a total of eight years. The Proposal sites are located about 170 km south of Darwin, 10 km east of the Stuart Highway between the towns of Adelaide River and Pine Creek. The resultant concentrates of zinc and gold/silver would be transported by truck to the Port of Darwin for shipment to international markets. All three sites have been disturbed by previous mining for various metals in the last 135 years.
The NT EPA decided that the Hayes Creek Project requires assessment under the Environmental Assessment Act 1982 at the level of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The draft Terms of Reference were developed by the NT EPA to assist PNX Metals in preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Hayes Creek Project.
The draft Terms of Reference are now available for public comment. Comments are to be submitted on or before COB 19 July 2019.
The NT EPA will then finalise and issue the Terms of Reference to PNX Metals for preparation of the EIS.
