The Environment Protection Act 2019 and the Environment Protection Regulations 2020 commences today, replacing the Environment Assessment Act 1982 and related Administrative Procedures.
The new Environment Protection Act 2019 was passed in the legislative assembly in September 2019, with the subordinate Environment Protection Regulations 2020 gazetted on 15 April 2020.
This is an enormous achievement for the Territory that will see the NT EPA deliver regulatory responsibilities for new environmental impact assessment processes that include the consideration of the impacts of a changing climate in the assessment process, and improved engagement with stakeholders and the community.
Both the new Act and Regulations can be found on the NT Government's legislation website.
