It marks the first completed assessment, with a draft environmental approval prepared for the Minister for Environment to consider, since the Environment Protection Act 2019 (EP Act) commenced.
The assessment was completed by referral information, a new, efficient method of assessment, allowing careful scrutiny of the proposal within the shortest possible assessment timeframes.
The NT EPA, in consultation with government authorities, recommended conditions requiring best practice design to avoid contamination of Darwin Harbour marine environmental quality and emissions of volatile organic compounds to the regional air shed. Implementation of recommended conditions requiring management measures with monitoring and independent checks will minimise any residual impacts and ensure the project is environmentally acceptable.
