MZI Resources Limited
MZI proposes to construct and operate a mineral sands mine on Bathurst Island in the Tiwi Islands, Northern Territory, approximately 50km west of Wurrumiyanga (previously Nguiu).
The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority has decided that the project requires assessment under the NT Environmental Assessment Act 1982 at the level of Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The project is a controlled action under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and is being assessed under the bilateral agreement between the Northern Territory and Australian Governments. The controlling provisions are:
- Listed threatened species and communities (section 18 and 18A)
- Listed migratory species (sections 20 and 20A) and
- Commonwealth marine areas (sections 23 and 24A).
