Overview
Verity Nature Pty Ltd formerly Blue Carbon S2C Pty Ltd is proposing to establish the Blue Carbon Restoration Research Pilot Project in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The proposal includes conducting pilot research of blue carbon ecosystem (mangrove, saltmarsh) restoration methods across six hectares on Kangaroo Island (NT Portion 2433), and construction and operation of a blue carbon research institute on about three hectares of land near Black Rock Landing, north of King Ash Bay.
On 25 August 2023, the NT EPA suspended the assessment in accordance with regulation 88 of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020, relating to referral to the Commonwealth, thereby suspending the process under regulation 119(2) for the NT EPA to direct the proponent to include additional information in the supplementary environmental report.

The NT EPA invited public comment on the referral for standard assessment by Verity Nature Pty Ltd to establish the Blue Carbon Restoration Research Pilot Project in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The proposal includes conducting pilot research of blue carbon ecosystem (mangrove, saltmarsh) restoration methods across six hectares on Kangaroo Island (NT Portion 2433), and construction and operation of a blue carbon research institute on about three hectares of land near Black Rock Landing, north of King Ash Bay.
Interested persons were invited to make a submission by 20 July 2023. The NT EPA made this notice in accordance with regulation 51(1) of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020.
