Proponent: Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics

Overview

The Northern Territory Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics proposes a program for establishing an industrial precinct on Middle Arm Peninsula, Darwin Harbour, as a strategic location for developing industries such as low emission petrochemicals, renewable hydrogen, carbon capture storage and minerals processing over a 50 year timeframe.

The NT EPA is assessing the strategic proposal as a strategic assessment by environmental impact statement (EIS) under the Environment Protection Act 2019. The Australian Government is also assessing the strategic proposal, focusing on potential impacts to protected matters under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. While the assessment processes are separate, the NT EPA is working collaboratively with the Australian Government to minimise duplication and streamline the processes as far as possible.
