Overview

INPEX Operations Australia Pty Ltd proposes to undertake maintenance dredging activities, as required, within the existing dredged footprint in Darwin Harbour over a five-year period. To date no maintenance dredging activities have been required to be undertaken; however, it is anticipated that at some stage during the next five-years such activities would be required.

Statutory notice (21 September 2022)

The NT EPA published a statutory notice on 21 September 2022 to invite public comment on the referral for standard assessment on a proposal to undertake maintenance dredging activities, as required, within the existing dredged footprint in Darwin Harbour over a five-year period. To date no maintenance dredging activities have been required to be undertaken; however, it is anticipated that at some stage during the next five-years such activities would be required. Interested persons were invited to make a submission by 19 October 2022.

Stage 2: Assessment

Assessment by referral information

Stage 3: Assessment completed

Statutory notice (28 April 2023)

The NT EPA completed its environmental impact assessment on 18 April 2023 and provided its Assessment Report and draft Environmental Approval to the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security, under sections 64 and 65 of the EP Act.

The Assessment Report and draft Environmental Approval may be inspected and obtained above.

The NT EPA publishes this notice in accordance with section 67 of the Environment Protection Act 2019.

Once the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security’s decision is made, it can be viewed on the Environmental approvals page.
