Proponent: Groote Holdings Aboriginal Corporation (GHAC)
Overview
GHAC is proposing the Little Paradise Development to construct infrastructure and facilities for various development types (e.g. roads, marina/harbour, a residential housing complex and eco-resort) within NT Portion 1632 on Groote Eylandt (Aboriginal land). The development is located northeast of the main township of Alyangula on Groote Eylandt and encompasses Deception Bay
The development is expected to support the long‐term economic and social future of all Anindilyakwa clans of the Groote Archipelago.
Stage 1: Referral
NT EPA notices
On 23 June 2023, the NT EPA suspended the assessment in accordance with regulation 89 of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020 (at the request of the proponent) thereby suspending publishing and consulting on the referral.
On 24 November 2023, the Groote Holdings Aboriginal Corporation (GHAC) Little Paradise referral was withdrawn from the environmental assessment process in accordance with Regulation 94 of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020.
