Overview

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL) proposes to develop the Mandorah Marine Facilities (proposal), a weather-resistant ferry berthing facility at Mandorah (within Lots 116 and 50, Hundred of Bray), to improve transport connectivity between the Cox Peninsula and Darwin.

The proposal area would cover approximately 7 hectares comprising:

  • northern and southern rock armoured breakwaters
  • dredging of an access channel, turning basin and berthing areas
  • a new boat ramp and car park modification
  • floating pontoon, gangway, jetty and rock armoured access causeway
  • a ferry terminal building
  • offshore dredge spoil disposal within the Darwin Harbour.

Statutory notice (24 March 2022)

The NT EPA published a statutory notice on 24 March 2022 inviting public comment on a proposal by the DIPL to develop a weather-resistant ferry berthing facility at Mandorah (within Lots 116 and 50, Hundred of Bray), to improve transport connectivity between the Cox Peninsula and Darwin.

Interested persons are invited to make a submission by 22 April 2022. The NT EPA published the notice in accordance with regulation 52(1) of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020, and the submissions are published in accordance with regulation 269.

Parts of one submission received on the referral has been redacted from publication in accordance with regulation 269 of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020.

Statutory notice (9 March 2023)

The NT EPA published a statutory notice on 9 March 2023 inviting public comment on the Supplementary Environmental Report for the Mandorah Marine Facilities, submitted by the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL).

Interested persons were invited to make a submission by 14 April 2023. The NT EPA published the notice in accordance with regulation 122 of the Environment Protection Regulations 2020.

NT EPA notice

Statutory notice (8 September 2023)

The NT EPA provided its assessment report and draft environmental approval to the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security on 28 August 2023, under sections 64 and 65 of the Environment Protection Act 2019.

The assessment report and draft environmental approval may be inspected and obtained above.

The NT EPA publishes this notice in accordance with section 67 of the Environment Protection Act 2019.

Once the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security’s decision is made, it can be viewed on the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security website.
